Insomnia

2 July, 2009 at 03:32 (Uncategorized) ()

in·som·ni·a. noun. an inability to sleep; chronic sleeplessness.

It’s 3:15 a.m. and my old friend Insomnia, which I thought had vanished for the summer, has returned with a vengeance. I finished Second Helpings, the second book in the Jessica Darling series, a little before 2 and have been trying (without success, obviously), to sleep ever since.

Also, on my way into the kitchen so that I could go on the computer, I woke up my brother and he flipped out, so I am trying to be as quiet as possible whilst I type this so I don’t wake him up again

Typing with only the light coming off of the monitor to assist you is exceedingly difficult.

Anyway, I would talk about Second Helpings but I am too exhausted to really write anything decent about it right now. That’s what I hate about insomnia. I am exhausted, but nonetheless cannot sleep. Sigh.

The Pros & Cons of Summer Vacation

29 June, 2009 at 18:51 (Uncategorized) (, )

You know what’s slightly annoying about summer vacation? You lose track of the days of the week. I would not have been aware that today is Monday had “#musicmonday” not been a trending topic on twitter. While it is slightly disorienting to not always be aware of the current date/time, it is refreshing, in a way. Another thing that’s annoying about summer vacation is, ironically, all the free time. While it is nice to have so much freedom, I get antsy and stressed when I don’t have anything to do. I love being busy. I crave it. While I did enjoy the free time I had for the first couple of days of vacation, sitting around and staring at the clock started getting old. I headed off to the book store in search of some summer reads in order to rectify this situation; however, I’ve been finishing books in less than a day because I’ve had so much time. Which is great, but as I do not have a job or a car, I can only purchase/borrow books from the library whenever my mother is willing to drive me to the bookstore or library, and, in the case of the former, purchase whatever books I would like to read.

Blog Layouts

29 June, 2009 at 16:12 (Uncategorized) (, )

I change my blog layout far too often. I am aware. It’s just that I love everything about wordpress, except it’s complete and utter lack of decent layouts/customization options. For this reason, I switched over to blogspot for a while at the begining of April, but ultimately returned to wordpress because blogspot did not work will with my computer and I generally prefered wordpress. I do like a lot of the wordpress layouts, but you cannot edit the font, colours, background, etc. on any of the layouts unless you have a paid account, which is really annoying. Blah. I may actually just switch over to blogspot, but then again, I have about six months worth of blogs here and I really do not want to abandon this little blog. Besides, I dislike blogspot (for the most part) and, like I said, it doesn’t work well with my computer. I don’t know. I had a livejournal for a while but it kept giving my computer really bad viruses so I stopped using it. For now at least, I think I’ll stay here. I’ve grown fond of this blog and I’m not ready to say good-bye to it just yet.

New books, Laziness, and Summer

26 June, 2009 at 22:43 (Uncategorized) (, , )

I would like to start out by apologizing for my complete lack of updates lately. Now that school is out, I’ve had plenty of time to be posting blog entries, but, to be honest, just have not been in the mood to blog. This week has been fairly uneventful as well, so I really haven’t had all that much to talk about. I took my French exam on Tuesday and it was fairly painless, thank goodness. After said exam I was officially free for the summer. I stopped by Barnes and Noble and picked up a copy of Sarah Dessen’s new novel Along for the Ride, which I finished yesterday. Other than that I’ve just been enjoying the sun, going on the internet, and generally being lazy as it is summer vacation after all. Eventually, however, I am going to need to stop being lazy and apply for a job while local businesses are still hiring high school students for the summer. Sigh.

Exams, Rain, and Colds

20 June, 2009 at 16:43 (Uncategorized) (, , )

Hi, blog. It is a cold and rainy Saturday and I am quite bored so I figured it was time for an update. I wish it would start looking like summer already. It’s been raining for a week straight. Don’t get me wrong, I love the rain but after seven days of cold, wet weather I’m starting to crave some sunshine.

I have a rotten cold. It is not much fun. This past week week was exam week and, accordingly, I had a test of some sort almost every day. Having a bad cold made it very difficult to concentrate. This was especially true on Friday, as I had to take the history exam, which is the longest and quite possibly the most difficult of all the exams we have to take. I love history and I do well in it, but this test was a challenge. It included fifty mulitiple choice questions,  two essays, and several short answer questions. Plus, it was a culmultative exam– it covered topics from both ninth and tenth grade. Add on the fact that I had a fever, headache, and congestion and it was not an enjoyable three hours. Oh well. I feel confident that I did well, though my last essay was a bit rushed–I ended up working on it until the last possible minute.

An Echo from Willow-Wood

15 June, 2009 at 21:16 (Uncategorized)

I just stumbled across this lovely poem, so I thought I’d share it with you:

“An Echo from Willow-Wood”

Two gazed into a pool, he gazed and she,
Not hand in hand, yet heart in heart, I think,
Pale and reluctant on the water’s brink,

As on the brink of parting which must be,
Each eyed the other’s aspect, she and he,
Each felt one hungering heart leap up and sink,
Each tasted bitterness which both must drink,

There on the brink of life’s dividing sea.
Lilies upon the surface, deep below,
Two wistful faces craving each for each,
Resolute and reluctant without speech:–

A sudden ripple made the faces flow,
One moment joined, to vanish out of reach:
So those hearts joined, and ah were parted so.

- Christina Rossetti, 1870
